Conversation of Understanding will look at efforts advancing an antiracist and inclusive campus community

A Conversation of Understanding virtual discussion next week will look at the “concrete action steps” taken over the past two years to advance the SIU System’s mission and antiracism, diversity, equity and inclusion efforts. Faculty, staff, students, alumni and community members are invited to join the live virtual discussion at noon Monday, March 28.

The discussion, “Leading Efforts to Advance an Antiracist and Inclusive Campus Community,” will encourage participants “to reflect on how they help dismantle systemic barriers and become a part of the SIU antiracism journey.”

The meeting will be available on the SIU System’s YouTube channel.

The event will feature an SIU community panel sharing its members’ experiences and stories, followed by a Q&A session through the YouTube comment section. Questions may be submitted before the event by email to pkeith@siu.edu.

The participants include:

  • Dan Mahony, SIU System president.
  • Austin A. Lane, SIU Carbondale chancellor.
  • James T. Minor, SIU Edwardsville chancellor.
  • Jerry Kruse, SIU School of Medicine dean and provost.
  • Sheila Caldwell, SIU System vice president for antiracism, diversity, equity and inclusion and chief diversity officer, will serve as moderator.

This is the 13th session in a series of virtual exchanges since June 2020 where students, alumni, faculty, staff and community members can share their experiences and thoughts on a variety of themes related to diversity, equity and inclusion.

The SIU System President’s Office and the SIU System Diversity Advisory Council are discussion sponsors.
