Attracting students from our own backyard

Since I started at SIU Carbondale in July 2020, we have made strides to increase our visibility through marketing and outreach in many places, including the Southern Illinois region. We are proud to call this area home, and we want students from this region to imagine themselves achieving their goals on our beautiful campus.

SIU research team aims to move food replication from science fiction to reality

A research team led by Lahiru Jayakody, assistant professor of microbiology, is working on a machine to provide nutritious food to astronauts on future deep space voyages. The concept was among 18 selected by NASA for a phase two design for the agency’s Deep Space Food Challenge.


Saluki Pride: Kristy White pays attention to the little details to assist law school

Whether planning events, helping to mold future lawyers or identifying issues and seeing they are addressed before they become problematic, Kristy White makes sure the SIU School of Law puts “their best foot forward” whether it is something for faculty, students or guests. SIU is recognizing first-generation students with special events Nov. 8-11

The First Saluki Center is partnering with SIU Edwardsville in celebrating its first-generation students, faculty and staff with in-person and virtual events. The national First-Generation College Celebration Day is Nov. 8.


SIU to hold open house for future Salukis on Saturday 

The university will hold the last open house of the fall 2021 semester on Saturday, Nov. 6. The free event is for Salukis who will be new to SIU in fall 2022 or later and their families. For a schedule of activities, visit the Admissions website.


SIU employees can win prizes, get fit in free challenge

The Willis Tower Stair-Roll Challenge is a unique opportunity for SIU faculty and staff to walk or roll their way to fitness in a fun way with the chance to win a prize. The free challenge begins at midnight on Monday, Nov. 8.


No SIU Today on Veterans Day 

There will be no SIU Today on Thursday, Nov. 11, for the university-observed Veterans Day holiday. SIU Today will publish Monday, Nov. 8, and resume Monday, Nov. 15.
