Talented faculty, staff chosen for university’s L.E.A.D. initiative

Eighteen talented faculty and staff from throughout campus are participating in the inaugural cohort of the L.E.A.D. SIU Carbondale Initiative. The initiative identifies, engages and mentors a select group of faculty and staff interested in learning more about higher education leadership and the complexities of operating a public university in today’s world.


Saluki Pride: Marissa Ellermann shows ‘care for learning’

As the head of circulation services in Morris Library, Marissa Ellermann’s priority is ensuring that students, faculty and staff have everything they might need available to them. Tony Williams, a professor in English, notes that Ellermann is an invaluable resource who “makes herself accessible to inquiries even after working hours on a regular basis, revealing her care for learning at SIU.” Ellermann is featured this week in Saluki Pride. SIU Alumni Association home in Woody Hall to become the Guida-Moller Family Alumni Center

The SIU Alumni Association’s home in the C-Wing of Woody Hall will be renamed the Guida-Moller Family Alumni Center after a $500,000 gift from alumni siblings Julie Guida, ’79, and Scott Moller, ’85. The dedication ceremony is at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, in front of the center entrance in the C-Wing of Woody Hall.


Paul Simon Institute to host longtime diplomat, foreign policy expert

Elizabeth Shackleford, a foreign policy expert who wrote a viral 2017 U.S. State Department resignation letter, will discuss her career in a virtual discussion with John Shaw, Paul Simon Policy Institute director, on Tuesday, Oct. 19.


Saluki Alumni Plaza dedication is Friday

As a part of SIU Homecoming 2021, Saluki Alumni Plaza will be formally dedicated at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, during a brief ceremony recognizing alumni and friends who donated to the project since fundraising began in 2018 by the SIU Alumni Association’s National Board of Directors.


October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month

October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month and the Office of Information Technology (OIT) is reminding faculty, staff and students that they hold many of the essential keys to lock criminals out of individual and SIU systems and accounts.


Great Glass Pumpkin Patch sale is Saturday

The Great Glass Pumpkin Patch returns to campus on Saturday, Oct. 16, and will feature 500 glass pumpkins for sale. The event is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the lawn near Pulliam Hall and the Pulliam Industrial Wing.
