Saluki Step Ahead brings SIU Carbondale to community college students across Illinois 

A new agreement between Southern Illinois University Carbondale and the Illinois Community College Board (ICCB) is bringing the education of a four-year research university to place-bound students in community colleges throughout Illinois. Following graduation with an associate degree from an Illinois community college, qualifying students can immediately advance to complete their bachelor’s degree online from SIU Carbondale without leaving home. 


Mandatory annual ethics training begins Friday 

Mandatory 2021 annual ethics training for all SIU Carbondale faculty, staff, graduate assistants, undergraduate assistants, volunteers, student employees and extra help employees takes place Oct. 1-29 on the D2L platform. School of Medicine employees located on the Carbondale campus will complete training using HealthStream.


Paul Simon Institute to host event with U.S. Sen. Duckworth

U.S. Sen. Tammy Duckworth will join the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute on Monday, Oct. 4, for a virtual conversation on topics, including the legislative agenda on Capitol Hill, challenges facing American foreign policy and her new book.


Friends of Morris Library’s Delta Awards ceremony is Thursday

A pair of books that shed light on pieces of the state’s history will be recognized as the 2020 and 2021 Friends of Morris Library Delta Award winners. “Stained with Blood and Tears: Lynchings, Murder and Mob Violence in Cairo, Illinois, 1909-1910” by John A. Beadles is the 2021 award recipient. “Kaskaskia: The Lost Capital of Illinois” by David MacDonald and Raine Waters is the 2020 award winner. Both will also be honored at 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, in the library’s John C. Guyon Auditorium.


SIU’s “Start Seeing Pink” campaign raises awareness, scholarship funds

As a part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, the university is again sponsoring special events, including the sale of “Start Seeing Pink” apparel, to raise scholarship funds for SIU students affected by the disease.


SIU spurs innovation with Saluki Pitch competition and IDEA LAB 2021

The university continues to foster innovation and creative entrepreneurship. The registration deadline for IDEA LAB 2021 is 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28. IDEA LAB 2021 is open to community members and SIU faculty, staff and student entrepreneurs, along with Saluki Pitch competition participants.
