Diana Tigerlily honored for teaching excellence 

Diana Tigerlily, an associate professor of practice in Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies and the University Honors Program, is a 2021 Teaching Excellence Award (non-tenure track) recipient.


Sheila Caldwell named SIU System vice president of antiracism, diversity, equity and inclusion

Southern Illinois University President Dan Mahony will recommend Sheila Caldwell to the SIU Board of Trustees to serve as the inaugural vice president for antiracism, diversity, equity and inclusion and chief diversity officer for the multi-campus university system. The board will vote to approve the hire at its upcoming meeting on April 29. Pending board approval, she will join the president’s staff in mid-July.


Amanda Sutton to serve as interim director of admissions

Amanda Sutton, a longtime professional at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, will serve as interim director of admissions. Sutton, most recently associate director of operations for undergraduate admissions, will lead SIU’s efforts to grow enrollment by recruiting high school seniors, transfer students and others seeking an associate or bachelor’s degree.


Encourage students to register now for fall classes 

Faculty and staff are encouraged to remind students that now is a great time to register for fall 2021 courses before leaving campus for the summer. Students registering now will help boost enrollment in the fall.


A step ahead: Shoe designer Theo Hassim earns 2021 Rickert-Ziebold Trust Award 

As with many aspiring athletes, Theo Hassim’s interest in footwear and sneakers began in grade school by following what top athletes were wearing. That initial interest sparked a passion, ultimately guiding Hassim, a senior industrial design major from St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada, to the 2021 Rickert-Ziebold Trust Award presented by the School of Art and Design.


Join SIU's “Rec Your Quarantine” challenge

Registration is underway for “Rec Your Quarantine,” courtesy of Recreational Sports and Services. This unique virtual race allows you to get involved and get fit in a safe, socially distanced way, no matter where you are, despite the ongoing pandemic. The challenge is open to everyone.


Big week for Saluki sports

It’s a maroon-clad time for SIU fans as the 18th-ranked Saluki football team looks to solidify the argument for an FCS playoff berth when players face No. 17-ranked Southeastern Louisiana at noon Saturday, April 17, at Saluki Stadium. In swimming, the women are hosting the Missouri Valley Conference championships, which are underway through Friday, April 16, at Shea Natatorium.
