Longtime SIU professional to serve as interim director of admissions

by Kim Rendfeld

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Amanda Sutton, a longtime professional at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, will serve as interim director of admissions.

Sutton, most recently associate director of operations for undergraduate admissions, will lead SIU’s efforts to grow enrollment by recruiting high school seniors, transfer students and others seeking an associate or bachelor’s degree. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in speech communication from SIU and has worked in the Undergraduate Admissions department since 2003, holding positions in both recruitment and operations.

“We are very pleased to have Amanda serving in this role as she has a long history with SIU and a tremendous amount of experience in admissions,” said Meera Komarraju, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs. “Amanda's background and experience in her various roles within Admissions have prepared her well to help us maintain the momentum as we enter the last stretch of recruiting students for the fall 2021 semester and get ready to open up applications this June for fall 2022.”

Sutton is eager for future Salukis to learn what SIU has to offer.

“I fell in love with the campus and community when I was student and am excited to serve my alma mater in this role,” she said. “SIU has a fantastic mix of unique educational experiences – many often reserved for grad students elsewhere – and opportunities for students to enjoy their time in Carbondale.”

The university will conduct a national search to fill the position for the long term.
