SIU research team wins second round of funding for water pollution mitigation 

Faculty and student researchers at SIU have secured a second round of funding from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to develop a process that uses light to remove a contaminant from water.


Virtual conversation on dismantling systemic racism is Oct. 14 

Faculty, staff, students, alumni and community members from across the SIU System are invited to join a live virtual discussion next week that examines best practices for dealing with systemic racism as seen in the nation’s systems and organizations, especially higher education institutions.


Upcoming University Honors virtual forum will discuss invented language 

Jeffrey Punske, Department of Linguistics, will hold a Zoom forum on linguistics this month, and he will discuss his book, which explores the varied ways in which invented languages can be used in teaching language and linguistics in university courses. The panel will include creators of invented languages for “Far Cry Primal,” “Man of Steel,” and “Game of Thrones.”


Recreational Services is offering virtual Latin dance lessons 

Take the opportunity to learn to dance the salsa and other Latin dance rhythms with a five-week virtual class that begins Tuesday.


University is accepting honorary degree/service award nominations  

Faculty and staff are reminded that the university is accepting nominations for honorary degree and distinguished service awards that will be presented at May 2021 commencement ceremonies. The nomination deadline is Oct. 21.
