SIU’s Recreational Services is offering virtual Latin dance lessons

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Take the opportunity to learn to dance the salsa and other Latin dance rhythms courtesy of Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Recreational Sports and Services.

An all-virtual Salsa Dance Instruction program begins Tuesday, Oct. 6 and runs through Nov. 3. The five-week class will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. each Tuesday.

Learn from a pro

The instructor, Caroll Butraigo-Long, brings a lifetime of dance experience to the class. She will share her expertise in salsa, merengue, bachata, cumbia and reggae. Participants will learn the basic steps and dance techniques for all of these Latin rhythms.

Lessons will be via Zoom.

The online class is $35 for members, $40 for non-members and $30 for SIU students. Sign up online or at the Member Services desk at the Student Recreation Center. Students will receive the Zoom link after registering.
