Rankings and the company we keep

The 2021 U.S. News and World Report rankings were released today, and SIU Carbondale is ranked 258 among all national universities. Among public universities in the same category, we are ranked at 126.

SIU researchers receive grant to study COVID-19 genome, track it through population 

Keith Gagnon and Koushik Sinha have received a grant aimed and improving the understanding of the COVID-19 virus.


Virtual Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month celebration kicks off Tuesday

“Be Proud of Your Past, Embrace Your Future” is the theme of the university’s 2020 Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month celebration. Many special events, including guest speakers, piñatas, cooking demonstrations, dancing and more are happening – all virtually – between Sept. 15 and Oct. 15.


Virtual conversation on race-based trauma and mental health is Sept. 21

Faculty, staff, students, alumni and community members from across the SIU System are invited to join a live virtual discussion next week that focuses on race-based trauma and mental health, and its impact on higher education institutions and members of the university community.


Faculty and staff can order regalia Sept. 22

University Events and Protocol is announcing a faculty and staff regalia sale next week through Herff Jones, a national provider of custom regalia. 


University is accepting honorary degree/service award nominations 

Southern Illinois University Carbondale is now accepting nominations for honorary degree and distinguished service awards that will be presented at May 2021 commencement ceremonies. The nomination deadline is Oct. 21.
