The last time Jason Seaman crossed the field at Saluki Stadium, the defensive lineman was a football and academic standout. When he returns Saturday for the first time in years, he’ll be carrying extra baggage: two bullets caught while protecting his students during a May school shooting incident in Noblesville, Indiana. Flying Salukis once again headed for national competition after eighth straight Region VIII win
The Southern Illinois University Carbondale Flying Salukis punched another ticket to the national finals with the team’s eighth straight National Intercollegiate Flying Association Region VIII title Oct. 13 at Purdue University. Full story
‘Illinois Ethics Matters’ newsletter available
The monthly Illinois Ethics Matters newsletter for October is available. The Office of Executive Inspector General publishes the newsletter to allow state employees to stay informed of current issues relating to ethics. The SIU System Ethics Office website is at ethics.siu.edu. The website contains information regarding how to file a complaint, relevant contact information, and many other resources.

‘Saluki Touch-a-Truck’ set for Nov. 3 at Saluki Stadium
Kids have an opportunity to see these big trucks up close Nov. 3 with an interactive “Saluki Touch-a-Truck” event outside of Saluki Stadium, 1400 Arena Drive, Carbondale. Some of the BIGGEST equipment, including bulldozers, a police cruiser and all sizes of trucks will be on hand for kids and adults to touch, climb on, and get inside these large vehicles. Full story
Deadline for honorary degree/service award nominations is Oct. 24
The nomination deadline for honorary degree and distinguished service awards that will be presented at May 2019 commencement ceremonies is Oct. 24. Nominations are also open to the SIU School of Medicine in Springfield. Full story
