Balkansky appointed to oversee College of Liberal Arts
Andrew K. Balkansky, associate dean for students and curricular affairs in the College of Liberal Arts, is acting in the capacity of the college’s interim dean. The SIU Board of Trustees will consider Balkansky’s nomination for appointment as interim dean at its July 12 meeting at the SIU School of Medicine in Springfield. Balkansky’s current status was effective May 29.
University earns national employer recognition
The university earned national recognition last week when Forbes released its annual rankings of “America’s Best Employers” and “America’s Best Midsize Employers” for 2018.

Saluki Drive repaving starts Monday
Due to this week’s inclement weather, Saluki Drive will be partially closed for brief intervals starting Monday through June 20 for repaving. During the project, Lot 18, the circle parking lot directly south of the SIU Arena, will be accessible from a small service drive near the east end of Saluki Drive. Please make arrangements to enter campus from another entrance during this time.
Family fun coming to the jungle
In a special production for young audiences, Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s McLeod Summer Playhouse is highlighting “The Jungle Book” with several performances in the coming weeks.
Changes at Saluki Express benefit riders
Students of Southern Illinois University Carbondale will soon be able to ride Saluki Express to St. Louis, Evansville, Indiana, and numerous new local destinations at no additional cost.
