SIU Carbondale announces strategies to enhance safety

The university will enhance campus safety by developing an ongoing awareness campaign, adding campus lighting, increasing public safety staffing, and evaluating all existing safety-related programs and policies, according to Interim Chancellor Paul D. Sarvela. More


State funding will improve campus lighting, safety

The university will receive $1.5 million from the state of Illinois to install approximately 400 new LED light fixtures along campus walkways. Training grant to assist social work students

Graduate students in the School of Social Work will soon have the opportunity to receive specialized trauma-based behavioral health training through paid fellowships. Dhrubodhi Mukherjee, associate professor and undergraduate program director for the School of Social Work, is the recipient of a $1.18 million Behavioral Health Workforce Education and Training award. More


Ojewuyi earns Carnegie fellowship

Segun Ojewuyi, associate professor of theater, will spend a semester at the University of Ibadan in Nigeria as the recipient of a Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship. More


Sustainability Council awards ‘green’ project funds

A hydroponic workshop, a community-supported agriculture project, composting commodes and an alternative spring break service project are among the 13 “green” projects receiving funds from the university’s Sustainability Council. More


‘Wellness Wednesday’ examines how to manage stress

“WellSIU” will hold its next lunch seminar series on Wednesday, Oct. 29, with a look at how to manage stress. The session is from 12:15 to 1 p.m. in the Student Center Kaskaskia Room. The seminar will focus on what stress is, how to manage it and more. Faculty and staff who attend the seminar will be eligible to win a free “WellSIU” access pass for the entire semester that allows access to the Thompson Point Fitness Center and Student Recreation Center track.


Malcolm X’s daughter to speak on father’s legacy

Ilyasah Shabazz, daughter of Malcolm X, the late civil rights activist and Betty Shabazz, will speak Nov. 10, in Student Center Ballroom D. More
