Troy Hudson to discuss his career, book

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Troy Hudson, former NBA player and Southern Illinois University Carbondale and Carbondale Community High School basketball standout, will speak at SIU on Saturday, Oct. 25.

Hudson will discuss his book, “Blood Money and Spirit,” which examines trends among minority athletes to achieve fame and success, but then the athletes wind up broke. Hudson’s presentation is at 12:30 p.m. in the Student Center’s Kaskaskia/Missouri rooms.

The public is welcome and there is no cost to attend.

Hudson’s narrative discusses how fame and success can have unforeseen consequences for personal relationships with friends and family. He draws on his own experiences, as well as conversations with other famous athletes and entertainers and incorporates it all into an interesting story, complete with religious quotes and advice to help break the trend.

Hudson averaged 21.2 points per game while playing for the Salukis from 1995 to 1997, and was a 2010 SIU Hall of Fame inductee. He went on to play 11 seasons in the NBA, averaging 9 points per game, while seeing court time with the Utah Jazz, Los Angeles Clippers, Orlando Magic, Minnesota Timberwolves and Golden State Warriors.

Hudson is an entrepreneur with the Hudson Records entertainment company, the life/athlete coaching company Troy E. Hudson Enterprises, and his advertisement business, Internet Sensation LLC.

Hudson will have a book signing after his presentation. For more information about the event, contact Michael Haywood at haywood@business.siu.edu.
