SIU to honor nine Excellence Award recipients

The university will recognize nine faculty and staff members for superior scholarship and creative endeavors, teaching and service with 2024 Excellence Awards at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, in Morris Library’s John C. Guyon Auditorium.


Marc Morris chosen College of Business and Analytics dean

Marc E. Morris, a triple alumnus of SIU Carbondale, has been selected as dean of the College of Business and Analytics. He has been serving as the interim dean since January 2023 and is a longtime SIU faculty member and administrator.


Paul Simon Institute hosts NPR journalist Scott Simon on Wednesday

Award-winning broadcaster, commentator and author Scott Simon will visit the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute on Wednesday, April 17, to meet with students and discuss his groundbreaking career in journalism. The free, public discussion is at 6 p.m. in Student Center Ballroom B. Registration to attend is recommended but not required.


SIU Carbondale undergraduate tuition rates frozen again

The SIU Board of Trustees on April 11 voted to freeze undergraduate tuition rates at its Carbondale and Edwardsville campuses for the 2024-2025 academic year. SIU Carbondale has not raised the undergraduate tuition rate in seven years.


School of Theater and Dance to highlight student playwrights’ work

The School of Theater and Dance will showcase the talents of graduate and undergraduate playwrights starting next week.


HR to implement new employee onboarding features May 1

Human Resources will provide an improved employee onboarding experience for both employees and hiring managers beginning May 1.


SIU hosts virtual discussion with filmmaker AG Rojas on April 17 

Filmmaker and music video director AG (Andres Gonzalez) Rojas will give a virtual presentation on Wednesday, April 17. The free, public discussion is at 3 p.m. in the Communications Building Northlight Studio, Room 1251, or virtually via Zoom.


Discussion on community violence prevention is this week  

Two political science faculty members at SIU Edwardsville will give two free, public presentations on preventing violence and keeping communities safe on Tuesday, April 16, and Wednesday, April 17, in Carbondale.


Illinois Ethics Matters newsletter is available  

The latest Illinois Ethics Matters newsletter for April 2024 is available. The Office of Executive Inspector General publishes the newsletter to allow state employees to stay informed of current issues relating to ethics. The SIU System Ethics Office website is siusystem.edu/ethics.

The Department of Public Safety’s April 2024 issue of the “Saluki Watch Dawg” is available. This month’s edition includes steps to take during severe weather, the DPS parking division Flowbird mobile phone app and a reminder that April is Child Abuse Prevention Month.
