Discussion on community violence prevention is this week
Two political science faculty members at SIU Edwardsville will give two free, public presentations on preventing violence and keeping communities safe on Tuesday, April 16, and Wednesday, April 17, in Carbondale.
Laurie Rice, professor, and Suranjan Weeraratne, associate professor, will discuss resilience to domestic terrorism in Southern Illinois with “Building Community Resilience to Radicalization to Violence.” The presentations are 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Carbondale Civic Center, 200 S. Illinois Ave., and noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the SIU Student Services Building, Room 150/160.
Weeraratne and Rice received a grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Center for Prevention Programs and Partnerships to strengthen local capacity to help prevent radicalization and targeted violence in Southern Illinois.
