Simon Institute hosts former U.S. Sen. Carol Moseley Braun

Former U.S. Senator from Illinois Carol Moseley Braun will discuss her pioneering career and her new memoir during a presentation hosted by the SIU Carbondale Paul Simon Public Policy Institute at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, in the Varsity Center. Pre-registration is not required but encouraged.


Reminder: Flu immunizations available on campus Wednesday 

All active and retired SIU Carbondale employees, their dependents and surviving spouses enrolled in a state-sponsored health plan can receive free flu immunizations at a walkup clinic from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, in the Student Center’s Renaissance Room. 


Reminder: Mandatory annual Title IX training is underway 

SIU Carbondale employees must complete mandatory training on new Title IX regulations by Dec. 19. Employees should have received an email on Oct. 15 from Vector Solutions titled “SIU Mandatory Employee Training,” with information for “Preventing Harassment and Discrimination: Gateway (Illinois).” The link to the training is also available on the Office of Equity and Compliance website. Training should take about one hour.


Public discussion on the future of Carbondale is Tuesday at SIU

The Future of Carbondale Economic Forum and Panel Discussion is set for 4:30-5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, in Lawson Hall, Room 231. The free event will focus on the factors and elements that are shaping Carbondale, its economy and its business environment and the impact the city and SIU have on one another.


Celebrate Davies Hall’s 100-year legacy on Friday 

With an afternoon of special activities from noon-2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 24, SIU Carbondale will celebrate the centennial of Davies Hall, named for Dorothy Davies, founder of SIU women’s college athletics. 


2025 Education Day will bring hundreds of high school students to campus

Nearly 400 high school students planning to study education will enjoy a day filled with more than 40 interactive activities and informative sessions as SIU Carbondale hosts its annual Education Day celebration on Tuesday, Oct. 21.


School of Music choral festival showcases high school vocalists 

More than 200 high school students from throughout the region will hone their choral skills in workshops Thursday, Oct. 23 at SIU Carbondale before performing as part of the School of Music’s high school choral festival at 4 p.m. 


Artist to discuss nontraditional photo techniques at SIU 

Photographic artist and writer Liz Sales will discuss her work in nontraditional photography during a presentation on Wednesday, Oct. 22. Sales will present “The Camera Obscura and Expanded Photographic Practices” during a free, public lecture in the Communications Building.
