Fall 2025 semester begins

SIU celebrates diversity, inclusion during Belonging Week 2025

Belonging Week 2025, set for Aug. 25-29 at SIU Carbondale, is a celebration of diversity, inclusion and equity. The theme is “Southern. You Belong Here.” Plans include guest speakers, presentations, a special project and more.


SIU’s stair climb to commemorate 9/11, War on Terror

The university will pay tribute to the victims of Sept. 11, 2001, with a workout session at 6 a.m. Thursday, Sept.11. The 9/11 Saluki Stair Climb at Banterra Center involves a simulated 110-floor stair climb, representing the 110 floors of the World Trade Center twin towers that were destroyed that day.


Friends of Morris Library fundraiser is Sept. 6

The annual Friends of Morris Library fall fundraising gala, which helps provide faculty, staff and students with essentials in support of the library’s educational and scholarly mission, is set for Saturday, Sept. 6, in the library’s Hall of Presidents and Chancellors and first floor rotunda. Ticket sales end Aug. 29.


Discounted SIU Student Rec Center memberships available for longtime employees

SIU Recreational Sports and Services and Student Affairs is offering current SIU Carbondale employees with 20 or more years of service a reduced annual membership price to use at the SIU Student Rec Center.


Learn innovative marketing strategies 

The Illinois Small Business Development Center at SIU is offering a free workshop Monday, Aug. 25, filled with fresh, innovative marketing strategies required in today’s quickly evolving business climate. 


Poshard poetry reading at SIU to benefit Saluki Food Pantry

A Sept. 29 poetry reading featuring SIU System President Glenn Poshard will kick off a food drive to stock the Saluki Food Pantry for the new academic year. The free poetry reading entitled “Beginnings and Endings” is at 11 a.m. in Student Center Ballroom B.


SIU’s Export Controls newsletter is available 

The monthly SIU Export Controls newsletter for August 2025 is available. The newsletter provides a resource for current export control issues and events that could affect SIU and its faculty. This edition includes guidance on oversight information for use of chemicals, biological equipment, materials and technology.
