Tariffs could affect supply chains, SIU professor says
President Donald Trump’s tariffs may have some very significant impacts on various manufacturing and supply chain management firms, said Gregory D. DeYong, an associate professor of operations management, meaning both availability and pricing on a variety of products may be an up and down seesaw as talks go on.
Radio, TV veteran Larry Hunter named WSIU interim executive director
Larry D. Hunter, who has more than three decades of experience in the television and radio industry, is the interim executive director for WSIU Public Broadcasting Service, the broadcasting arm of SIU Carbondale. Hunter’s appointment is effective Wednesday, April 16.
SIU Choral Union, Concert Choir to perform Brahms’ German Requiem
The combined talents of the SIU Carbondale Choral Union and Concert Choir will showcase composer Johannes Brahms’ German Requiem during a free, public concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, in Shryock Auditorium. The performance is the final concert at SIU for Susan Davenport, professor and director of choral activities in the School of Music, who is retiring from teaching at SIU after 20 years.
SIU Simmons Law School hosts naturalization ceremony Friday
About 65 of the nation’s newest citizens will participate in a naturalization ceremony at 10 a.m. Friday, April 11, at the SIU Simmons Law School. The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois hosts the event, with U.S. Senior District Judge J. Phil Gilbert presiding.
Saluki sports look to avoid raindrops
With the hope of no schedule-altering rain, Saluki sports look to get back on track this week. The Saluki baseball team hosts Arkansas State at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, at Itchy Jones Stadium, before beginning a three-game series against Belmont April 17-19. The Saluki softball team hosts Bradley at Charlotte West Stadium Friday through Sunday, April 11-13, with games at 5 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and noon Sunday. The Saluki women’s volleyball team hosts its last spring match of the season at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Davies Gymnasium. Be sure to check team schedules at siusalukis.com.
Provost Faculty Fellow program applications now due Tuesday
The deadline for applications to the Provost Faculty Fellow program has been extended to Tuesday, April 15.
Roundtable talk on Wednesday to examine support for first-year students
Faculty, staff and graduate assistants are invited to attend a first-year experience roundtable discussion on Wednesday, April 16. The sessions examine the unique transitions, challenges and experiences of first-time-in-college students and transfer students who are new to SIU Carbondale. The session is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Faculty Staff Lounge in the Student Center’s Old Main Room.
Jazz Vespers at Epiphany to celebrate fifth anniversary
Members of the New Arts Jazztet, a Southern Illinois jazz group comprising SIU faculty and guests, will celebrate the fifth anniversary of Jazz Vespers, a monthly evening prayer service, at 5 p.m. Sunday, April 13, at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 1501 W. Chautauqua St., Carbondale.
