SIU puts the fun, adventure and learning in summer camps for 2025
A diverse assortment of camps and programs at SIU Carbondale this summer will entertain, educate, engage and appeal to people of all ages and abilities as well as hobbies, passions and personal interests.
Sculpture dedication, discussion commemorate 2024 eclipse
“Art in the Dark,” a one-year anniversary celebration of the 2024 total solar eclipse, is Tuesday, April 8, at Morris Library. Events begin at 3 p.m. and include a panel discussion and formal dedication of the eclipse-inspired sculpture outside Morris Library.
Legence Bank invests in student success at SIU
With a commitment of $137,500 to SIU Carbondale, Legence Bank is helping bring a Saluki education within reach of local students. The Legence Bank Saluki Commitment Scholarship will provide tuition funds for 11 students each year as part of the AIM HIGH/Saluki Commitment program, which covers tuition for eligible in-state students chosen from the 11 Southern Illinois communities served by Legence Bank.
SIU Carbondale community invited to celebrate R1 designation
A celebration of the university's recent designation as a Research 1 university from noon to 2 p.m. April 10 will include eight faculty research presentations. The event in the Student Center International Lounge and Student Center Auditorium will feature a special R1-themed cookie giveaway and tabling information for both undergraduates and graduate students by the graduate school.
‘Journey to the Sun’ talk to focus on how the eclipse affects bees
Steven Still, assistant professor in the School of Agricultural Sciences, and Logan Park, an associate professor of forest recreation and park management in the School of Forestry and Horticulture, will discuss the effects of a total solar eclipse on a bee colony in the next “Journey to the Sun” talk, set for 3 p.m. Friday, March 28, in Morris Library’s John C. Guyon Auditorium.
Get tickets now to hear enlightening 2025 TEDxSIUC speakers
Tickets are available for TEDxSIUC, an independently organized event featuring live TED-style talks, at SIU Carbondale from 2-6 p.m. Saturday, March 29, in the Student Center ballrooms.
SIU student, faculty, alumni photos featured at Cedarhurst Center
An annual photography exhibition that features the work of SIU Carbondale students, faculty and staff starts Saturday, March 29, at the Cedarhurst Center for the Arts in Mount Vernon. The exhibition runs to June 15.
School of Art and Design competition for high school students is underway
The second Creative Futures art competition for Illinois high school juniors and seniors hosted by the School of Art and Design is underway.
Reminder: A/P performance evaluations due Monday
University policy requires that all administrative/professional staff have their work evaluated on an annual basis between Jan. 1 and Monday, March 31.
Illinois Ethics Matters newsletter is available
The latest Illinois Ethics Matters newsletter for March 2025 is available. The Office of Executive Inspector General publishes the newsletter to allow state employees to stay informed of current issues relating to ethics. The SIU System Ethics Office website is siusystem.edu/ethics.
SIU’s Export Controls newsletter is available
The monthly SIU Export Controls newsletter for March 2025 is available. The newsletter provides a resource for current export control issues and events that could affect SIU and its faculty. This edition includes information on international collaborations and conducting research abroad.
