SIU students make a difference in public health while still in school
Students in SIU Carbondale’s public health program aren’t waiting until they get their diplomas to make an impact. They are involved in a wide variety of community service and public outreach projects and internships – from working with local schools and emergency responders to studying systems in Ireland to self-care.
Open forums set for Library Affairs dean
Two candidates for dean of Library Affairs at SIU Carbondale will meet with faculty, staff and students during a series of open forums on campus, beginning Tuesday, March 18.
Saluki Takeover Tour hits St. Louis, Southern Illinois is next
The Saluki Takeover Tour St. Louis during the week of Arch Madness and the Missouri Valley Conference men's basketball tournament included visits by Chancellor Austin Lane and other campus representatives to six high schools and one college, along with the March 5 Chancellor’s Reception at Busch Stadium. Next is Southern Illinois as the Saluki Takeover Tour will enhance connections throughout the region with six stops, April 3-22.
Morton-Kenney Lecture examines the relationship of religion, politics
Paul A. Djupe, a political science professor and chair of data for political research at Denison University, will present the spring 2025 Morton-Kenney Public Affairs Lecture at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 20, in Student Center Ballroom B. Registration to attend the free, public lecture is not required but is recommended.
Reminder: Faculty fellow programs have April 1 deadline
The deadline for applications for the Provost Faculty Fellow program and proposal submissions for the Saluki Online Faculty Fellow is April 1.
Women's Film Festival is today, Tuesday
SIU Carbondale’s Paulette Curkin Pride Resource Center and the Women’s Resource Center are hosting the SIU Women’s Film Festival, today and Tuesday, March 17-18.
Vice Chancellor for Research Faculty Fellow program applications open
Applications will be accepted for tenured SIU Carbondale faculty to participate in the Office of Vice Chancellor for Research Faculty Fellow program for the next fiscal year. The deadline to apply is April 11.
SIU School of Music recital to feature Mongolian music
The School of Music will host a recital featuring the works from Mongolia’s best composers at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, in the university’s Old Baptist Foundation Recital Hall.
SIU Book/Vinyl and Media Sale is March 21-22
Treasures and hard-to-find items will be discovered when the Friends of Morris Library and WSIU Radio host a massive public sale in the Morris Library basement, Friday and Saturday, March 21-22.
2025 Celebrate Women raises funds for scholarships
Tickets are available for the 28th annual Celebrate Women event March 27 at the Glenn Poshard Transportation Education Center. Lana Rizzo, associate instructor of automotive technology, will speak on the theme, “Driving Us Forward: Women in Automotive.” Proceeds go toward women’s scholarships awarded by American Association of University Women (AAUW) Carbondale Branch.
Nurse educators, students to join national guests at region’s first nursing educators conference
The inaugural Southern Illinois Nursing Educators Conference is coming to SIU Carbondale on Friday, March 21, featuring Tim Bristol, founder of the nationally acclaimed nurse education leader of tomorrow, NurseTim.
Roundtable talk on Thursday to examine support for first-year students
Faculty, staff and graduate assistants are invited to attend a first-year experience roundtable discussion on Thursday, March 20. The sessions examine the unique transitions, challenges and experiences of first-time-in-college students and transfer students who are new to SIU Carbondale. The session is from 8:30-10:30 a.m. in the Student Services Building, Room 150/160.
Course to assess online learning is Wednesday
“Assessing Online Learning,” the next monthly online Teams session offered by SIU Online and Extended Campus to assist SIU Carbondale online faculty and instructors, is from 3-4 p.m. Wednesday, March 19.
