SIU Carbondale awards full-ride Chancellor’s Scholarships

Thirty-five high achieving high school seniors are receiving SIU Carbondale 2025 Chancellor’s Scholarships, which cover tuition, mandatory fees, on-campus housing and food for four years.


New webpage provides resources on SIU’s community of care 

As part of SIU Carbondale’s commitment to providing support for all students and embracing its diversity, it has created a new Community of Care webpage. There, you will find key information, guidance and resources to help navigate ongoing changes in the federal government. The webpage will be regularly updated as new information becomes available. We continue to monitor executive orders, meeting daily to examine their impact. 


SIU Carbondale, Taiwanese university reach pact for aviation, other opportunities

SIU Carbondale and Chaoyang University of Technology (CYUT) in Taiwan recently entered into an agreement to promote collaborative academic, research and student exchange possibilities. The MOU will initially involve the School of Aviation and CYUT but could extend into other academic areas.


Nissan donates nine electric vehicles to SIU School of Automotive 

Incredible corporate partnerships play a vital role in the success of SIU Carbondale students, particularly in the School of Automotive. SIU alumnus and Nissan executive Lee Raines recently facilitated a gift of nine Nissan Leaf electric vehicles for automotive program students to work on. 


Roundtable talks to examine support for first-year students

Faculty, staff and graduate assistants are invited to attend three first-year experience roundtable discussions this semester. The sessions will examine the unique transitions, challenges and experiences of first-time-in-college students and transfer students who are new to SIU Carbondale. The first session is Wednesday, Feb. 12.

Registration is underway for the third annual Little Grassy Winter Songwriter Retreat at the Touch of Nature Outdoor Education Center Feb. 28-March 2. The deadline to purchase advance tickets is Feb. 14.


SIU advertising expert: Celebrities, nostalgia and AI highlight Super Bowl ads

The superpower of celebrities and the growing influence of artificial intelligence will be in front of millions of television viewers when Super Bowl LIX hits screens across the nation on Sunday, Feb. 9, said Bridget Lescelius, an associate lecturer in the School of Journalism and Advertising.


SIU’s ‘Love at the Glove’ 2025 set for Feb. 14

The annual “Love at the Glove” Valentine’s Day art show tradition returns on Feb. 14 with an exhibition featuring works from Southern Illinois University Carbondale students, faculty and the community. The student-run art show is from 6 to 9:30 p.m. at the Surplus Gallery inside the Glove Factory Studio Arts Building.


Salukis face busy week on the hardwood 

The SIU women’s basketball team plays three games at Banterra Center over the next week —the Salukis host Evansville at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, in a celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports, Indiana State at noon Sunday, Feb. 9, and Missouri State at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13. The SIU men’s basketball team hosts the University of Illinois Chicago at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at Banterra Center in a game that will celebrate the decade of the 1970s with special music and videos. New Arts Jazztet will perform Sunday 

Members of the New Arts Jazztet, a Southern Illinois jazz group comprising SIU faculty and guests, will perform at Jazz Vespers, an evening prayer service at 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 1501 W. Chautauqua St., Carbondale. NAJ was formed in 1984 by several School of Music faculty and has been in residence from that time. The performance will celebrate the music of Phil Brown, Ray Bryant, George Cables, Pat Metheny, Wes Montgomery and Gerry Niewood. The service will also be livestreamed on the Jazz Vespers at Epiphany Facebook page.
