Third annual Saluki Ball set for April 26 at Student Center  

Make plans to attend the third annual Saluki Ball, hosted by Chancellor Austin Lane, Loren Lane and the SIU Foundation on Saturday, April 26, in the Student Center Ballrooms. The funds raised benefit students who need assistance with their bursar bills to ensure they can stay enrolled in classes at SIU. Morris Library to show film on civil rights leader Ida B. Wells, art to honor her

A documentary on pioneering Black journalist, educator and civil rights leader Ida B. Wells is set for SIU Carbondale’s Morris Library on Thursday, Feb. 6. “The Light of Truth: Richard Hunt’s Monument to Ida B. Wells” will be screened at 5:30 p.m. in John C. Guyon Auditorium. The free, public event is part of SIU’s Black History Month celebration.


$1M gift to Saluki Athletics honors Jim Hayes

The stadium club inside Saluki Stadium is being renamed the Jim Hayes Stadium Club, following a $1 million gift from Jaime and Netta Hayes. The club’s namesake, Jaime Hayes’ father, came to SIU on a football scholarship in 1961. The 1962 graduate and his family eventually settled in Harrisburg, where he founded the Jim Hayes, Inc., car dealership.


SIU System Faculty Collaboration Award nominations open  

The Faculty Advisory Committee for the SIU System (FACSS) is accepting applications for the 2025 Faculty Collaboration Award. The annual award recognizes faculty for impactful collaborative endeavors across campuses in the areas of teaching, scholarship and creative activities, service, and/or antiracism, diversity, equity and inclusion. 


SIU’s Opera Theater follows ‘The Little Prince’ on his travels, Feb. 7-9

A well-loved children’s story of a prince whose journeys take him to Earth and beyond comes to Shryock Auditorium when the SIU School of Music’s Opera Theater presents “The Little Prince.” Performances are at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Feb. 7-8, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9.


SIU Craft Shop plans workshops, Valentine’s Day sale

What better way to usher in spring than by learning to create something new or by acquiring unique handcrafts created by local artisans? The Craft Shop is offering a full slate of craft workshops and sponsoring a Valentine Craft Sale.


Reminder: Sturgis Public Service Award nominations 

SIU Carbondale is seeking nominations for the Lindell W. Sturgis Memorial Public Service Award, which honors an employee for their community work away from campus. Nominations must be received by Feb. 21.
