SIU students prepare for national business competition
After winning a tough regional contest, business students under the direction of Tim Hurley, clinical associate professor in the School of Accountancy, are preparing for what they hope will be a second national title at the Deloitte FanTAXtic Case Competition in late January. SIU won the event in 2023.
Texas Saluki Takeover Tour travels to Dallas, Houston
They say everything is bigger in Texas. In many ways, that was true for the Saluki Takeover Tours in Dallas and Houston, Nov. 18-20, where Chancellor Austin Lane and other university officials visited high schools, colleges and donors and hosted receptions and corporate events.
SIU chooses new Black Resource Center coordinator
Dina Timmons, a double alumna of SIU Carbondale, is the new coordinator for the Black Resource Center, a unit of the Student Multicultural Resource Center.
Supplemental retirement, deferred compensation plans updated
The Internal Revenue Service has increased the amounts individuals can contribute to their 403(b) and 457(b) accounts for 2025.
Online session on teaching practices, strategies is Dec. 4
The final 60-minute interactive session of the semester to assist SIU Carbondale online faculty and instructors is Wednesday, Dec. 4. “Preparing Your Online Course for the Next Term” runs from 10 to 11 a.m.
SIU System Technology and Innovation Expo is Dec. 5 on campus
Technology and enterprise will come together at the 2024 SIU Technology and Innovation Expo from noon to 4:30 p.m. Dec. 5 at SIU Carbondale's Dunn-Richmond Economic Development Center. The event is free, and registration information is available.
SIU ceramic and print sale is Dec. 4
SIU Carbondale printmaking and ceramic students will show their work just in time for the holiday season during their annual sale from 5-7:30 p.m. Dec. 4 in the ceramic studio, Pulliam Industrial Wing, Room 102.
Wanted: Assistance with event focusing on cryptocurrency
Scott Gilbert, director of the Business Intelligence Center and associate professor in the School of Analytics, Finance and Economics, is planning and coordinating the center’s first public event in early February 2025, focusing on blockchain technology and cryptocurrency, and he’s asking faculty and staff for assistance.
No SIU Today on Thanksgiving
Like the rest of campus, SIU Today will take off Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 28. The submission deadline for the Monday, Dec. 2, edition is Tuesday, Nov. 26.
