Wanted: Assistance with event focusing on cryptocurrency
Keeping at the forefront of the latest in business technology, the College of Business and Analytics has a newly established Business Intelligence Center and a Business Intelligence Center registered student organization that’s allied with the SIUC Blockchain Economics Club. Scott Gilbert, director of the center and associate professor in the School of Analytics, Finance and Economics, is planning and coordinating the center’s first public event in early February 2025, focusing on blockchain and cryptocurrency, and he’s asking faculty and staff for assistance.
Gilbert said the use of and interest in blockchain technologies and services as well as cryptocurrency continues to grow, and he is seeking:
- Suggestions for interesting topics or applications for the blockchain (distributed ledger) and cryptocurrency event.
- People who have an interest in and knowledge of this quickly advancing and expanding field and who are interested in being presenters.
Gilbert said tentative plans are for the session, which will be open to the general public, to take place late afternoon or evening on Feb. 5. Plans will be finalized in the near future.
To suggest a topic, participate as a speaker, or get more information, contact Gilbert at gilberts@siu.edu.
In addition, the SIUC Blockchain Initiative was recently launched. It’s a group of university faculty, staff, students and alumni who meet regularly and collaborate to promote blockchain-related research, education and networking opportunities. The group meets via Zoom 5-6 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month. Email Gilbert to join the group’s email list.
