SIU researcher analyzes water isotopes, refining a method to solving mysteries
Chris Stantis, assistant professor in the Department of Anthropology, is studying isotopes in water by utilizing chemical analysis of local tap waters, which can be used in forensic investigations such as identifying a person.

Help SIU save energy, improve sustainability over Thanksgiving break
As students, faculty and staff prepare to leave campus for Thanksgiving break, now is a good time to take simple steps to save energy, which will help the university improve sustainability, one of the five pillars of the Imagine 2030 strategic plan. The university is asking employees and students to help conserve energy.
Prepare for inclement weather
As the weather gets colder, faculty and staff should take two important steps to prepare for inclement weather: review the campus policy and ensure that the university has your current cellphone number if you want to receive emergency text alerts.
Discussion on campus financial reports set for Dec. 11-12
Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance Susan Simmers is inviting SIU Carbondale fiscal officers, fiscal officer delegates and other users of AIS and PLABIS to attend an information session on campus financial reports Dec. 11-12 at Morris Library’s John C. Guyon Auditorium.
Saluki football closes out 2024 season
There are several opportunities to catch Saluki sports in the next two weeks. The Saluki football team finishes the 2024 season and celebrates Senior Day at noon Saturday, Nov. 23, against Murray State in Saluki Stadium. The Saluki women’s basketball team hosts Central Methodist at 11 a.m. Dec. 2 in Banterra Center on Elementary Field Trip Day. The Saluki men’s basketball team opens Missouri Valley Conference play against Bradley at the Banterra Center at 7 p.m. Dec. 3.
HEROES collecting coats and winter gear for those in need
A drive to collect new or gently used coats, hats, gloves and scarves through the Higher Education Resources and Opportunities for Salukis in Need (HEROES) program is underway. Items may be dropped off through Dec. 18 at the information desks of the Student Health Center or the HEROES headquarters, located on the lower level of the Student Center.
Applications for Thrasher, REACH funds to open Dec. 2
Faculty should remind undergraduate students of two scholarship programs coming up for renewal next month. The Susan C. Thrasher Undergraduate Research Fund and the Research-Enriched Academic Challenge (REACH) programs both offer financial support and research opportunities.
No SIU Today on Thanksgiving
Like the rest of campus, SIU Today will take off Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28. The submission deadline for the Monday, Nov. 25, edition is today (Nov. 21). The deadline for the Monday, Dec. 2, edition is Tuesday, Nov. 26.
