SIU engineering students make it easier for people with disabilities to enjoy nature
A team of SIU Carbondale engineering students recently came together to assist people with mobility difficulties who struggle with getting out into nature, where hiking trails and off-road paths can present challenges.
Chancellor Lane receives Illinois FFA award
Chancellor Austin Lane received an Illinois FFA Honorary State Degree award on July 9 during the organization's state officer meeting on campus.
Angela Upchurch appointed acting law school dean
Angela K. Upchurch, associate dean for academic affairs and curriculum development at SIU’s Simmons Law School, has been appointed acting dean of the law school.
SIU Foundation shatters records for fundraising, scholarships
The SIU Foundation shattered its records for fundraising and scholarships awarded during Fiscal Year 2024. SIU Carbondale supporters donated $47 million in fiscal year 2024, a whopping 51 percent increase over fiscal year 2023. The foundation also awarded an incredible $5,406,133 in scholarships.
New forms for time-keeping
Effective July 1, all monthly paid exempt and nonexempt administrative/professional (AP) and semi-monthly paid civil service employees should use revised time-recording sheets.
Back where it belongs: ‘Hello, Dolly!’ returns to SIU’s McLeod Theater stage
The matchmaking and romantic exploits of Dolly Gallagher Levi come to the SIU Carbondale McLeod Theater stage this week as “Hello, Dolly!” closes out the 2024 McLeod Summer Playhouse season. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. July 12-13 and July 19-20 and 2 p.m. July 14 and July 21.
Saluki Aces place second among Air Race Classic college teams
For SIU Aviation's Maya Marenda and Graci McDaniel, patience was a virtue in last month’s Air Race Classic. The decision by The Saluki Aces to delay their journey and wait for better weather enabled the pair to finish second in the 22-team intercollegiate division.

SIU Carbondale alumnus Kevin Morefield, who has garnered national acclaim for capturing amazing astrophotography images, will share his work at 5 p.m. Monday, July 15. The public is welcome to attend “The Blurring of Art and Science” at the Dunn-Richmond Economic Development Center’s Art Atrium.
SIU hosts global philanthropy president to discuss peace, education, democracy programs
Dame Louise Richardson, president of the Carnegie Corporation of New York, will join the Paul Simon Public Polic Institute for a virtual conversation at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 17.
SIU’s anatomical drawing workshop is July 18-21
A workshop next week SIU Carbondale is once again giving participants an opportunity to create anatomically accurate and artistic drawings from direct observations of cadavers, and to learn from human anatomy and medical experts with a four-day Artistic Anatomy Drawing Workshop.
Blood drive set for today
The American Red Cross and SIU Carbondale will host a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today, (July 11) at Student Health Services, conference rooms 111/112. View the link for more information, including how to schedule an appointment.
New Arts Jazztet will perform Sunday
Members of the New Arts Jazztet, a Southern Illinois jazz group comprised of SIU faculty and guests, will perform at Jazz Vespers, an evening prayer service at 5 p.m. Sunday, July 14, at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 1501 W. Chautauqua St., Carbondale. NAJ was formed in 1984 by several School of Music faculty and has been in residence from that time. The performance will feature works by Arthur Adams, Phil Brown, Dave Brubeck, Dave Catney, Joe Farnsworth and Hank Jones. The service will also be livestreamed on the Jazz Vespers at Epiphany Facebook page.
