Able Flight, SIU Aviation help student pilots with disabilities find their wings
SIU Aviation instructors have worked with five students with disabilities who have been on campus since late May to become licensed pilots certified to operate light sport aircraft through Able Flight, a national nonprofit program.
July 4 fireworks display near Banterra Center
SIU and the city of Carbondale have announced the annual Independence Day fireworks display on campus will be at 9:15 p.m. Thursday, July 4, near the Banterra Center. Learn more about the show and parking details. Food treats will be available from vendors. In the event of rain on July 4, the fireworks display will be Friday, July 5, also at 9:15 p.m.
Free tickets for July 16 Thrillbillies game
SIU Carbondale is sponsoring "Salukis in Thrillville Night" on Tuesday, July 16, at Mtn Dew Park in Marion as the Thrillville Thrillbillies take on the Cape Catfish at 6 p.m., and SIU employees can go to the game for free.

Center for English as a Second Language celebrates 60 years
For 60 years, the Center for English as a Second Language — the third oldest intensive English program on a university campus — has helped an estimated 30,000 international students from about 100 countries acclimate to the region and prepare to earn their degrees. A celebration will take place today (June 27) from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in Morris Library’s John C. Guyon Auditorium.

Hundreds of participants coming to SIU for Illinois TRIO Conference
More than 200 high school and university students from across Illinois will be on campus Friday through Sunday, June 28-30, for the 2024 Illinois TRIO Student Leadership Conference, celebrating the golden anniversary of the state chapter of the TRIO Programs.
