ADEI presentation videos sought
An initiative by the SIU System Office of Antiracism, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is giving faculty and staff an opportunity to share their insights and strategies for dismantling systemic racism in American educational systems.
Organizers are seeking video presentations that contribute to a meaningful dialogue and advance antiracism initiatives across the system’s campuses. Faculty and staff are invited to share their information, which will be part of a longer video presentation. Video responses should not exceed 10 minutes; three presentations will constitute the 30-minute video.
“We want to attract a broad swath of knowledge from faculty and staff who are passionate about anti-racism, diversity, equity and inclusion,” said Renada Greer, executive director of SIU Carbondale’s Student Multicultural Resource Center.
“While most may think of diversity as it relates to race or ethnicity, we want to capture a broader range of experiences and perspectives that include gender, sex, socioeconomic background, religion, sexual orientation, ability, education and ethnicity,” she said. “That is what we hope presenters will bring.”
Presenters who are selected will receive a $1,000 honorarium. Recipients will be notified of their selection by July 15.
Presentation requirements are:
- Dive into the historical impact of systemic racism.
- Explore present-day realities of systemic racism.
- Propose actionable steps for stakeholders to mitigate harm.
- Promote anti-racist practices, policies and systems.
