SIU prof gets prestigious NSF grant to enhance AI crime analysis

Ahmed Imteaj, an assistant professor in the School of Computing, has received a grant to improve AI crime analytics capabilities while fostering collaboration among multiple agencies and keeping sensitive information secure. The National Science Foundation’s Computer and Information Science and Engineering Initiation Initiative is aimed at providing essential resources for early-career researchers.


Unearthing the past: SIU’s archaeology summer field school continues Fort Kaskaskia work 

Students from three universities, including SIU Carbondale, continue to unearth important information about the French and American forts once visited by the Lewis and Clark Expedition by participating in the annual Archaeology Field School at the Fort Kaskaskia State Historic Site in Randolph County under the direction of Mark Wagner, director of the SIU Center for Archeological Investigations and a professor in anthropology.


SIU earns D2L award for inclusive excellence  

The university is being recognized for its work at improving the initial encounters and onboarding experiences for international students and teaching assistants. The Center for Teaching Excellence recently received a 2024 D2L Excellence Award “for fostering inclusive excellence within its community” from the online learning platform.

Saluki fans can buy PawPass — a low-cost subscription plan that features a ticket to every home football and men’s and women’s basketball game for the upcoming 2024-25 season — through the end of July.


SIU’s Export Controls newsletter is available 

The monthly SIU Export Controls newsletter for June 2024 is available. The newsletter provides a resource for current export control issues and events that could affect SIU and its faculty. This edition includes information on drone guidance and a link to the SIU export controls compliance manual.
