Saluki Ball raises funds that bridge the gap for students
More than 500 people attended the Saluki Ball, which was hosted by Chancellor Austin Lane and the SIU Foundation on Saturday, April 20, in Chicago. The funds raised benefit students who need assistance with their bursar bills to ensure they can stay enrolled in classes at SIU.
Fashion Studies program prepares for April 25 show
The annual Fashion Studies’ Student Showcase and Runway Fashion Show is Thursday, April 25, at the Student Center. The evening will be capped with a special tribute highlighting the work of Judy Huyck, a senior lecturer in the fashion studies program who is retiring from SIU Carbondale after 12 years.
Reminder: SIU honors nine Excellence Award recipients Tuesday
Nine faculty and staff members will be recognized Tuesday, April 23, for superior scholarship and creative endeavors, teaching and service with the 2024 Excellence Awards. The ceremony is at 3 p.m. in Morris Library’s John C. Guyon Auditorium.
SIU will host Arbor Day tree planting April 24
The university will commemorate Arbor Day and Earth Month with a tree planting from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 24. The planting will happen rain or shine at the north entrance to campus, beginning at the corner of Mill and Poplar Streets. Everyone is welcome to participate.
Outstanding SIU students recognized by SIU Board of Trustees
Three SIU Carbondale students were among those recognized April 11 by the SIU Board of Trustees with the 2024 SIU System Distinguished Student Service Award.
Lecture on April 25 focuses on visual culture, science in early modern Europe
Alexandra Challenger, an adjunct professor and reference associate in Florida State University’s Special Collections and Archives, will present “Eclipsing Boundaries: Visual Culture and Science in Early Modern Europe,” on Thursday, April 25, in SIU Carbondale’s Sharp Museum Auditorium. The 6 p.m. lecture is free and open to the public.
Saluki Athletics holding yard sale on May 4
There will be a treasure trove of discounted items available when Saluki Athletics hosts a yard sale on Saturday, May 4, at Saluki Stadium. The sale is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will include a limited selection of brand new, unused Saluki athletic gear, including shirts, shorts, cleats, jerseys and more, while supplies last. This event is free and open to the public. Cash and credit accepted. All sales are final.
