Lecture on April 25 focuses on visual culture, science in early modern Europe
Alexandra Challenger, an adjunct professor and reference associate in Florida State University’s Special Collections and Archives, will present “Eclipsing Boundaries: Visual Culture and Science in Early Modern Europe,” on Thursday, April 25, in SIU Carbondale’s Sharp Museum Auditorium. The 6 p.m. lecture is free and open to the public.
Challenger studies the art and visual culture of early modern Europe (1400-1600) with an emphasis on Germany. She focuses on the emergence of printed images within the context of scientific publishing and the contributions of artists to the development of printing.
The lecture is sponsored by the School of Art and Design, Artspace 304 and photogenesis, a registered student organization on campus.
