Over 1,300 grads to be honored at fall commencement

The academic achievements of more than 1,300 SIU Carbondale students will be celebrated at fall 2023 commencement exercises on Saturday, Dec. 16, at the Banterra Center. Commencement begins at 10 a.m.

Entrepreneurs win thousands of dollars in 2023 business plan competition

The innovation, creativity, entrepreneurship and ingenuity of Southern Illinoisans were celebrated at the recent Innovation and Entrepreneurship Showcase at SIU Carbondale, and $20,000 in cash and prizes were awarded.

SIU staff encouraged to attend a virtual wellness session Feb. 5 

The SIU System will offer a wellness session for staff only on Feb. 5. The session will focus on understanding how your unique roles play into SIU’s mission-driven purpose and how to work together to achieve those goals and vision of an inclusive culture.

University Bookstore offering faculty, staff 30% holiday discount 

The University Bookstore, located in the Student Center, is offering SIU faculty and staff 30% off their entire apparel and gift purchase of qualifying, regular-priced items through Dec. 22. There are some exceptions, and a coupon, available at the store, is required, along with an SIU ID.  

Reminder: Commencement volunteers sought

Volunteer opportunities are available for faculty, staff and community members who would like to help fall 2023 semester graduating Salukis celebrate their accomplishments during SIU Carbondale’s commencement exercises at Banterra Center on Saturday, Dec. 16.

SIU senior 2023 student art exhibition begins Tuesday

An exhibition will highlight the work of three seniors in the School of Art and Design from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, through Friday, Dec. 15, in the Allyn Building’s Vergette Gallery on campus. A reception in the gallery is from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16.

The Department of Public Safety’s December 2023 issue of the “Saluki Watch Dawg” is available. This month’s edition includes details for online safety, residence hall closing information, winter weather and driving preparedness tips, the DPS 2023 community survey, and the Wednesday, Dec. 13, open house and employee awards information.

Illinois Ethics Matters newsletter is available

The latest Illinois Ethics Matters newsletter for December 2023 is available. The Office of Executive Inspector General publishes the newsletter to allow state employees to stay informed of current issues relating to ethics. The SIU System Ethics Office website is siusystem.edu/ethics.

SIU Today holiday schedule

The last SIU Today issue before winter break is Thursday, Dec. 14. Submission deadlines remain the same. The deadline for the Dec. 14 edition is Tuesday, Dec. 12. SIU Today will resume in January.
