Getting crops and solar energy from the same plots
SIU’s Advanced Energy Institute recently led a delegation, including technical experts, labor leaders, elected state officials and local farmers, to Europe, where they toured agrivoltaic facilities. Agrivoltaic systems refer to the practice of locating solar energy collection stations and farming operations on the same land, essentially growing crops beneath solar panels.
Military Times ranks SIU Carbondale 3rd in Midwest for veterans
SIU Carbondale continues to earn national recognition for its tradition of providing educational services for military service members and student veterans wherever they might be. In Military Times magazine’s 2023 “Best for Vets: Colleges” rankings, the university ranked third among 59 colleges and universities in the Midwest and 51st among 325 schools in the nation.
Commencement volunteers sought
Volunteer opportunities are available for faculty, staff and community members who would like to help fall 2023 semester graduating Salukis celebrate their accomplishments during SIU Carbondale’s commencement exercises at Banterra Center on Dec. 16.
Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week features service, leadership activities
The university is recognizing National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week with a variety of special activities through Nov. 17. The week also coincides with Leadership and Service Week.
Thanks “Giving Back” Food Drive Nov. 28 will benefit SIU students
The Thanks “Giving Back” Campus Food Drive offers a great opportunity to assist SIU Carbondale students who need a little help now and then. The food drive is set for 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 28, and all donations will go to the Saluki Food Pantry.
Submit Eclipse Con 2024 expo space requests now
Campus departments, units, student organizations and community groups can sign up for space for Eclipse Con 2024, SIU Carbondale’s big comic con-style event, set April 6-7. The event is in conjunction with the total solar eclipse on April 8.
