Innovation and research project moves forward
Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker earlier this week released $2.5 million in state funds to renovate the McLafferty Annex and launch the Illinois Food, Entrepreneurship, Research and Manufacturing (iFERM) hub.
SIU celebrates students’ milestones
The academic achievements of more than 900 students will be celebrated at fall commencement on Saturday, Dec. 17, at the Banterra Center, starting at 11 a.m. In addition, two members of SIU’s Air Force ROTC will officially accept their appointments as second lieutenants in the Air Force during a commissioning ceremony on Friday. And a special pinning ceremony was held Wednesday to recognize 38 graduates of SIU’s Teacher Education Programs.
Public health plans for spring
As the university makes plans for in-person classes and activities this spring, it will continue to monitor the situation with COVID, influenza and other public health concerns.
Help SIU save energy costs over winter break
In an effort to control campus energy costs, Facilities and Energy Management asks employees to help conserve energy by following some simple suggestions before leaving campus for the holiday break. Custodial staff will visit the offices of faculty and staff who have been working remotely this semester.
Saluki Pride: Haibo Wang teaches, researches integrated circuits, sensor data
From a homemade crystal radio receiver built as a child to a professor at a top university, Haibo Wang has always been about capturing electrons and making them behave. The coordinator of the School of Electrical, Computer and Biomedical Engineering’s biomedical engineering program, Wang conducts research in integrated circuits and sensor data, as well as teaching many courses. He also enjoys SIU’s beautiful campus and harbors a long-standing desire to see more of the great outdoors in the country.

Simplified login coming in January
The Office of Information Technology in January will be updating Duo to incorporate “universal prompt,” a next-generation technology that will simplify login experiences while improving security and usability.
SIU’s Export Controls newsletter is available
The monthly SIU Export Controls newsletter for December 2022 is available. The newsletter provides a resource for current export control issues and events that could affect SIU and its faculty. This edition includes work by federal agencies to develop procedures that address technology transfer risks at U.S. universities and information on the university’s Clean Laptop Program, including a list of countries where an SIU-issued laptop cannot be taken to.
