Simplified login coming in January

The Office of Information Technology in January will be updating Duo to incorporate “universal prompt,” a next-generation technology that will simplify login experiences while improving security and usability.

The update should be completed before the start of the spring 2023 semester on Jan. 17.

Once the upgrades are complete, Duo will automatically attempt to send a “push” as the second part of the multifactor authentication (MFA) process, a two-step authentication process that increases security for your SIU credentials and accounts.

No other action will be needed if the user wants to receive the push.

Currently, users must decide whether they want to complete the login process by manually choosing to send a push to their mobile devices or receive and then enter a passcode to complete the login process.  After the upgrade, manual entry options, including a mobile passcode, text passcode, phone call or bypass code will still be available.

The improved technology is also adaptive and will eventually display the user’s preferred authentication choice.
