Innovation Showcase to include students selected for special innovation experience

Three University Innovation Fellows, students selected to participate in a unique experiential training program to help them become more innovative, creative and entrepreneurial and to foster those characteristics in their fellow students, will be recognized at the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Showcase on Thursday, Dec. 8, which is open to everyone.


Coffee and Cookies With the Chancellor on Dec. 8 

Chancellor Austin Lane is inviting faculty, staff and students to share an end-of-semester treat from 1-3 p.m. Thursday at Anthony Hall.


How to support students’ emotional health 

Faculty and staff can serve as a resource for students’ emotional wellness. Given the increased stress many students are experiencing toward the end of the semester, you may find yourself encountering students with mental health and emotional needs that warrant your attention. Here are some tips from the counselors at Counseling and Psychological Services for how you can be proactively engaged with students you work with and responsive to their needs.


Nominate an inspiring colleague for a Faculty and Staff Excellence Award 

Know someone who inspires you with their incredible talent, passion and commitment? Nominate them for a Faculty and Staff Excellence Award. The nomination deadline is 4:30 p.m. Feb. 3. 


COVID-19 booster clinic is Wednesday in Student Center 

SIU and the Jackson County Health Department will hold a walk-up COVID-19 booster clinic for faculty, staff and students from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, at the Student Center’s ground floor main intersection.


Encourage students to register for spring classes  

Even with the end of the semester soon approaching, it’s still not too late to remind students to register for classes. Faculty and staff are encouraged to remind students to register before leaving campus for break so that they can get the classes they want.


REACH Awards competition applications start Dec. 5

Full-time SIU Carbondale undergraduate students can begin applying for the 2023-24 Research-Enriched Academic Challenge (REACH) award competition beginning today, Dec. 5. Students with a GPA of 2.8 or higher are eligible. The application deadline is Jan. 27.


Supplemental retirement plans university availability notice

This notice contains some general information related to SIU Carbondale’s supplemental retirement 403(b) plans and the State of Illinois’ deferred compensation 457(b) plans. The plans are a supplement to the State Universities Retirement System (SURS) pension.


Faculty/Staff ticket special for Dec. 16 men’s basketball game

With the end of the semester fast approaching, Saluki Athletics is thanking hard-working SIU faculty and staff with discounted men’s basketball tickets to the Chicago State game on Friday, Dec. 16, at 7 p.m. at the Banterra Center. By using the promo code “SIUC,” university faculty and staff can purchase $6 tickets to the game on the Athletics website. Seats will be in the lower level in Section 113.
