SIU dedicates Glenn Poshard Transportation Education Center 

The Glenn Poshard Transportation Education Center was dedicated Oct. 7 to honor the former SIU System president, whose efforts are credited with helping secure funding for the state-of-the-industry facility that houses the university’s nationally recognized automotive and aviation programs.


SIU School of Law to honor alumni judges, kick off 50th anniversary

The SIU School of Law is recognizing its past and applauding its present and future as it kicks off its 50th anniversary celebration. A reception to unveil a Hall of Judges display that honors the more than 160 SIU Law graduates who have become judges is set for 5 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 13, in the law school’s Hiram H. Lesar Law Building Formal Lounge. The event runs from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and is open to the public.


Flu immunizations will be available on campus Oct. 18, 26

The Illinois Department of Central Management Services (CMS) will be providing free flu immunizations for all active and retired SIU Carbondale employees, as well as surviving spouses enrolled in a state-sponsored health plan.  As part of that effort, the Jackson County Health Department will administer the immunizations at two walk-up flu shot clinics, set for 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 18 and Oct. 26 in the SIU Alumni Association Courtyard at Woody Hall.


SIU’s School of Theater and Dance set to kick off stage season 

Starting with the classic “Romeo and Juliet,” that long-held story of doomed love, the School of Theater and Dance returns to a full schedule for the 2022-2023 season starting this week.


‘Let’s Talk Research’ monthly discussions begin Oct. 19

The inaugural “Let’s Talk Research,” a monthly virtual event that will highlight research on campus, funding resources and research-related topics, is set for Oct. 19.

Join ‘Learning to Lead: Lessons in Executive Excellence’ presentation Oct. 13

Faculty, staff and students are invited to participate in the virtual event “Learning to Lead: Lessons in Executive Excellence” from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, featuring Lynda Ellis, owner and CEO of Capitol Concierge, a commercial and corporate concierge service provider.


‘Illinois Ethics Matters’ newsletter is available

The monthly Illinois Ethics Matters newsletter for September 2022 is available. The Office of Executive Inspector General publishes the newsletter to allow state employees to stay informed of current issues relating to ethics. The SIU System Ethics Office website is siusystem.edu/ethics.


View this month’s ‘Saluki Watch Dawg’

The Department of Public Safety’s October 2022 issue of the ‘Saluki Watch Dawg’ is available. This month’s edition includes details on the university’s annual fire and safety report, auto burglary prevention tips, domestic violence awareness information and a reminder to drive safely on campus.
