SIU Law, GSU pact aims to diversify legal profession 

In a historic move to create pathways to degree and advanced degree completion and to diversify the pipeline to the legal community,  SIU Carbondale and Governors State University entered an agreement that will allow students to earn both bachelor’s and law degrees in six years.


Saluki Pride: Mike Robertson’s passion for flight led to teaching others

Mike Robertson’s fascination with flying began when a family friend took him on his first small airplane ride in Montana at 7 years old. Now a professor in aviation management and flight as well as safety officer in the School of Aviation, Robertson shares his insight in preparing students for their own journeys. He also creates and organizes safety management systems and unmanned aircraft systems workshops that draw participants from through the United States. Black Hawk College, SIU sign Saluki Step Ahead agreement

The university strengthened its commitment to students with an agreement last week to provide an SIU education to qualified place-bound students who attend Black Hawk College through Saluki Step Ahead. The agreement brings a total of 21 Saluki Step Ahead pacts that the university has with community colleges in Illinois, Missouri and Texas.

Better Government Association president to discuss journalism, advocacy work

David Greising, president and CEO of the Better Government Association, will talk about the organization’s Pulitzer Prize-winning journalism and good-government advocacy next week in a virtual conversation hosted by the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute.


Six join SIU Alumni Association board of directors

The SIU Alumni Association has selected six alumni to join the organization’s board of directors after a national call that went out to all Southern Illinois University Carbondale graduates in late 2021. Each new member will serve a two-year term beginning in July 2022, with the option of being re-elected to a second term.


New Arts Jazztet will perform Sunday 

New Arts Jazztet, a Southern Illinois jazz group comprising SIU faculty, will perform at Jazz Vespers, an evening prayer service at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 1501 W. Chautauqua St., Carbondale, at 5 p.m. Sunday, July 10.
