SIU to commemorate Juneteenth 

The university will commemorate Juneteenth by hosting a special exhibition, presentation and reception featuring Nigerian-born artist Adedayo Laoye and his works, along with a gospel sing. SIU is also collaborating with a number of community partners to present a wide variety of events. All of the events are free and open to the public.


SIU adds two more Illinois colleges to Saluki Step Ahead program 

Southern Illinois University Carbondale recently signed two Saluki Step Ahead agreements with Southeastern Illinois College and the College of Lake County, further strengthening its commitment to qualified place-bound students to provide them with an SIU education.


Saluki student-athletes grateful for support to succeed during and after college 

What do a Carolina Panther football player, the guidance counselor for a 2,600-student Chicago-area high school and a standout college track/cross-country athlete with a 4.0 GPA have in common? When they are Madre Harper, Anthony Colletti and Josie Brown, the common denominator is that these former student-athletes all chose SIU Carbondale as the launch pad to help them achieve their goals.


Saluki Pride: Exercise science professor Phil Anton committed to teaching 

Phil Anton, an associate professor in the School of Human Sciences, has many roles at SIU, including directing the Strong Survivors Program, centered on cancer rehab, which he helped found in late 2005. Because of his devotion to SIU Carbondale students and the people they serve, Anton has received the university-level Teaching Excellence Award (tenured and tenure track). Nominating a colleague is easy; simply fill out this form.


Reminder: Decal-By-Mail parking program available through June 17 

The Department of Public Safety Parking Division’s Decal-By-Mail program for eligible faculty and staff for the fiscal year 2023 is available through June 17. Applicants must use payroll deduction. The salary ranges for decal categories have not been increased.


Catalyst Racing is back at Touch of Nature 

Bike racing is returning to Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Touch of Nature Outdoor Education Center on June 25 as the Catalyst Race Series makes its third and final stop of the season on the scenic site. People of all ages can enter now.


SIU’s Export Controls newsletter is available 

The monthly SIU Export Controls newsletter for June 2022 is available. The newsletter provides a resource for current export control issues and events that could affect SIU and its faculty. This edition includes a story on the United States easing travel restrictions to Cuba and an overview of SIU Export Controls.


New Arts Jazztet will perform Sunday 

New Arts Jazztet, a Southern Illinois jazz group comprising SIU faculty, will perform at Jazz Vespers, an evening prayer service at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 1501 W. Chautauqua St., Carbondale, at 5 p.m. Sunday, June 12.
