SIU celebrates Earth Day with Green Fund grant awards

Projects focusing on clean energy, sustainable farming, recycling and other initiatives to help make the region and planet Earth a greener place were among seven proposals to earn 2022 Green Fund grants at the university’s Earth Day celebration April 22. Karen Schauwecker, sustainability coordinator, noted the Green Fund grants fit well with SIU’s strategic plan, Imagine 2030, whose pillars include sustainability.


Southern Illinois, SEMO orchestras, Carbondale high school ensembles to share Shryock venue

The Southern Illinois Symphony Orchestra will present a musical extravaganza on Tuesday, April 26, in Shryock Auditorium in a combined performance with the Southeast Missouri State University Symphony, plus an added ingredient — ensemble performances from Carbondale Community High School as students showcase their Fine Arts Night presentation.


100 Maplewood Richmond Heights students at Touch of Nature this week

As part of a partnership between SIU Carbondale and Maplewood Richmond Heights School District, Touch of Nature Outdoor Education Center is hosting about 100 seventh-graders from the school district this week, April 25-29, and about 100 eighth-graders from the district will be attending a residential camp at Touch of Nature May 16-20.


WSIU, Cedarhurst to host free event for children and families

WSIU Public Broadcasting and the Cedarhurst Center for the Arts will hold the annual Family Day at Cedarhurst on Saturday, April 30, at Cedarhurst in Mount Vernon. The event will be held rain or shine.


East St. Louis mayor to discuss economic development, city budget

East St. Louis Mayor Robert Eastern III will participate in a virtual Meet the Mayor series hosted by the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute on Thursday, April 28.


Reminder: SIU President Mahony to present SIU System’s strategic plan on Friday

The campus community is invited to hear SIU President Dan Mahony's discussion on the SIU System’s strategic plan during a presentation from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, April 29, in the Student Center Auditorium.
