Saluki Pride: Cara Doerr is “always on top of her game” 

A recent Leading, Empowering, Advocating and Developing (L.E.A.D.) selection, Cara Doerr has been with the university in a variety of roles over her 11 years on campus, allowing her to work on various initiatives. Valerie Brooks Wallin, a chief academic adviser in the College of Health and Human Sciences, notes Doerr “is always on top of her game and always willing to help out wherever she can.” Nominating a colleague is easy; simply fill out this form.


COVID vaccine booster clinic next week 

The university will host a COVID vaccine booster clinic 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Jan. 19-20 at the Student Center Renaissance Room. The Pfizer, Moderna and J&J boosters will be available. To sign up, visit siu.edu/coronavirus. Students and employees who receive a booster shot on campus next week will receive a $5 gift card to Starbucks. If you would like to receive a vaccine, visit vaccines.gov.


University Museum will host several exhibitions this spring 

Works by emeritus faculty Jerry Monteith and Daniel Overturf, a glimpse into the region’s history and artifacts, and an exhibition relating to health and wellness in the African American community are among the highlights at University Museum this spring. The exhibitions begin this week.


Proposals for women’s conference due Jan. 31 

Proposals are being accepted for “Advocates and Allies: The 2022 SIU Conference on Women.” The conference theme is how women and gender minorities may ally with, advocate for, and support one another. The conference will take place from noon to 8 p.m. on March 18 and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on March 19 in the Student Center.


Campus departments, colleges can sign up for Job and Internship Fair 

Campus departments and colleges, along with local businesses, can sign up for the Job and Internship Fair on Feb. 15. The fair, which is sponsored by SIU’s Career Development Center, connects students with career and internship opportunities.


SIU Women’s Club is accepting scholarship applications

The SIU Women’s Club is now accepting applications for two scholarships: the Dorothy Morris Traditional Student Scholarship and the Joyce Guyon Non-Traditional Scholarship. The scholarship application deadline is Jan. 31.


Touch of Nature presents maple syrup production demonstration Jan. 30

Ahead of the very popular Maple Syrup Festival, Touch of Nature will house a maple syrup production demonstration from 1-4 p.m. Jan. 30, providing a hands-on experience for the public.


SIU Today schedule

There will not be an SIU Today issue on Monday as the university observes Martin Luther King Jr. Day. SIU Today will return Jan. 20.
