SIU professor explores long-term implications of ‘Great Resignation’

Although quit rates are at a historic peak, a lot of what we are currently seeing is not so much “The Great Resignation” as it is “The Great Reshuffle,” said Steven Karau, the Gregory A. Lee professor of management. He has been studying the phenomenon and its causes, impacts and implications for the future.


Chancellor’s Faculty-Staff Lounge schedule for January

The Chancellor’s Faculty-Staff Lounge at Old Main reopens for the spring semester this week and includes special hosts later in the month.


Saluki Con 22 at SIU moving to April 16

Originally scheduled for later this week, the recent increase in COVID-19 cases around the world has prompted the fourth edition of the popular Saluki Con to be rescheduled for April 16 at the Student Center.

A/P performance evaluations due April 1

University policy requires that all administrative/professional staff have their work evaluated on an annual basis between Jan. 1 and March 31. The rating period to be used for evaluations completed in 2022 is Jan. 1, 2021 to Dec. 31, 2021. Evaluation forms are on the AIS e-forms website. Completed evaluations should be sent to Labor and Employee Relations at LER@siu.edu or mail code 4319 prior to April 1, 2022. Swedish ambassador to U.S. is the first Paul Simon Institute guest for 2022

The Paul Simon Public Policy Institute begins its 2022 event schedule on Thursday, Jan. 13, with a virtual conversation with Karin Olofsdotter, Sweden’s ambassador to the United States. Olofsdotter joins John Shaw, institute director, at 9 a.m. for a conversation via Zoom. They will discuss Sweden-U.S. relations, how the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact global trade and Olofsdotter’s career in government service.


View this month’s ‘Saluki Watch Dawg’ 

The Department of Public Safety’s January 2022 issue of the “Saluki Watch Dawg” is available. This month’s edition has myriad topics, including details for signing up and using the Safe Walk app; crime and incident reporting tips; a ride-along program; the Safety, Awareness, Facts and Education (S.A.F.E.) website; SIU confidential adviser information; fire safety advice, and suggestions for students as they return to class.


‘Illinois Ethics Matters’ newsletter is available

The monthly Illinois Ethics Matters newsletter for December 2021 is available. The Office of Executive Inspector General publishes the newsletter to allow state employees to stay informed of current issues relating to ethics. The SIU System Ethics Office website is siusystem.edu/ethics.
