SIU Carbondale, 3 Chicagoland community colleges to improve access for students

The university is partnering with three Chicagoland community colleges to bring the expertise of a doctoral research university to place-bound students. On Oct. 4-5, SIU Carbondale entered agreements with Harper College, Oakton Community College and Harold Washington College, part of City Colleges of Chicago. The signings were part of the Saluki Takeover Tour: Chicago, which included several events to build and enhance partnerships.


Saluki Pride: Lorelei Ritchie enjoys teaching the next generation of lawyers

Coming into a new job in a different state in the middle of a pandemic isn’t easy, but it hasn’t stopped Lorelei Ritchie from meeting those challenges. Previously a judge with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Ritchie joined the law school faculty in 2020. Ritchie is featured this week in Saluki Pride. Olympian and SIU Carbondale alumna DeAnna Price, comedian Chico Bean and exciting football featuring the nationally ranked Salukis once again show that “SIU Is All That” as the university celebrates Homecoming 2021 next week.


SIU faculty film focuses on Shawnee National Forest use

An hourlong documentary that retraces the battle over commercial logging within the Shawnee National Forest more than three decades ago and raises concerns over present public land use will premiere on campus on Wednesday, Oct. 13.


Reminder: COVID-19 vaccination clinic on campus this week

The free, on-campus COVID-19 vaccination clinics in the Student Center Renaissance Room continue today and Friday, Oct. 7-8. Information on vaccinations, including times, and campus pandemic safety protocols is available at siu.edu/coronavirus.


New Arts Jazztet will perform Sunday

New Arts Jazztet, a Southern Illinois jazz group comprising SIU faculty, will perform at Jazz Vespers, an evening prayer service at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 1501 W. Chautauqua St., Carbondale, at 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 10.
