Students explore truth in CBD labeling at SIU Carbondale

As part of the Research Experiences for Undergraduates program, a student from a university in Puerto Rico spent the summer at SIU Carbondale working on a project aimed at ensuring people get what they pay for when purchasing CBD products, and an SIU student will continue the project. Funded by the National Science Foundation, REU pays for students to visit other universities to conduct research.


Saluki Pride: Kymberlee Mills helps ease library’s database transition

Kymberlee Mills, a senior library specialist with Morris Library, has helped greatly in the transition to a new unified library service platform. Gary Shepherd, also a senior library specialist, notes Mills took it upon herself to become the library’s “primary expert” with the acquisitions section of the ALMA platform, involving considerable work and research. SIU honoring Hartke, Glasper families as the 2021 Saluki Families of the Year

The Saluki Families of the Year for 2021 are the Taylor Hartke family of Teutopolis, Illinois, and the Terielle Glasper family of O’Fallon, Illinois. Both will receive prize packages and special recognition during SIU’s Saluki Family Weekend, set for Friday through Sunday, Sept. 24-26.


Printmaker Tonja Torgerson will present lecture tonight

Printmaker Tonja Torgerson will discuss her work during a lecture at 7 p.m. today, Sept. 23, in Morris Library’s John C. Guyon Auditorium. The lecture is part of the university’s Visiting Artist Program, sponsored by the School of Art and Design.


Virtual appointments for faculty and staff regalia orders available

University Events and Protocol is announcing a virtual faculty and staff regalia sale through Herff Jones, a national provider of custom regalia. Graduate students wishing to purchase regalia rather than rent are also welcome. 


Get Spirit Friday gear and support the Saluki Food Pantry

It’s a longstanding tradition to wear maroon on Fridays and now, the SIU Bookstore, located in the Student Center, has launched sales of #SpiritFriday gear to encourage school spirit and help support the Saluki Food Pantry. 


SIU accepting honorary degree and service award nominations

Faculty and staff are reminded that the university is now accepting nominations for honorary degree and distinguished service awards that will be presented at May 2022 commencement ceremonies. The nomination deadline is Oct. 20.
