Our hope for an in-person fall 2021

As I continue to meet with people, the overwhelming desire I hear is to return to having most classes be face-to-face this fall. Right now, our leadership team is working with faculty, staff and students on a comprehensive Saluki Safety plan that has us returning to normal, provided that we continue to test, wear masks, practice social distancing and stay within the guidelines of the state, county and city.

SIU Carbondale awards Chancellor’s Scholarships to high-achieving local students

Fourteen high achieving high school seniors from throughout the region are receiving 2021 Chancellor’s Scholarships, which cover tuition, mandatory fees, room and board for four years.


Day of Giving raises $2.8 million for SIU

The fifth annual Day of Giving on Wednesday raised $2.8 million to support SIU and its students. To learn more, visit siuday.siu.edu.

Faculty, staff and students are welcome to participate in “Innovate 2021: Diversifying the Future of Business,” a virtual summit on March 16-17 that will focus on diversifying the future of business. 


‘Diversity and Inclusion Monthly’ published

The March 2021 issue of Diversity and Inclusion Monthly is available from the Office of Associate Chancellor for Diversity. This month’s issue focuses on Women’s History Month and includes profiles on Sarah Marbes, the Women’s Resource Center coordinator and coordinator for the Center for Service-Learning and Volunteerism; Meera Komarraju, vice chancellor for academic affairs; Lori Stettler, vice chancellor for student affairs, and Erin Palmer, an associate professor in the School of Art and Design who was commissioned to create the statue of Dorothy Morris.


‘Illinois Ethics Matters’ newsletter is available

The monthly Illinois Ethics Matters newsletter for February 2021 is available. The Office of Executive Inspector General publishes the newsletter to allow state employees to stay informed of current issues relating to ethics. The SIU System Ethics Office website is at siusystem.edu/ethics.
