SIU educator preparation program receives national honor

SIU Carbondale is one of just nine institutions across the country to receive national recognition this year for leadership and commitment to continuous improvement in preparing people for careers as educators.

Know someone who inspires you with their incredible talent, passion and commitment? Nominate them for a Faculty and Staff Excellence Award. The nomination deadline is 4:30 p.m. Feb. 5.


Aspiring physician Maryam Makhdoom is SIU’s 2020 Lincoln Academy Student Laureate 

Maryam Makhdoom is the 2020 Lincoln Academy of Illinois Student Laureate for Southern Illinois University Carbondale. She praised the faculty who have mentored her. “SIU has been instrumental in my success.”


Simon Institute to unveil new statesmanship award Monday 

The Paul Simon Public Policy Institute and former Illinois Gov. Jim Edgar on Monday will announce a new annual award for state and local government officials who show exceptional leadership. The virtual event discussing the Paul Simon-Jim Edgar Prairie State Statesmanship Award is at 10 a.m. via Zoom. The online program is free, but registration is required.


 View this month’s ‘Saluki Watch Dawg’ 

The Department of Public Safety’s November 2020 issue of the ‘Saluki Watch Dawg’ is available. This month’s edition includes information on the state’s Opioid Action Plan, the RAVE Mobile Alert System, a reminder on emergency kit accessories, tips on preparing for the flu season during the COVID-19 pandemic and theft prevention advice.
