“Fury Cruft” by Robert Spahr, associate professor and interim director, School of Media Arts, was exhibited earlier this month at the Re-Fest 2022 Festival, organized by CultureHub at the LaMaMa Experimental Theatre Club in New York City.  The work was presented in the “Re-Unification” themed, custom-built virtual space presenting video art and live performance.

Cindy Buys, professor, SIU School of Law, will be teaching several classes as a visiting professor for two months this spring at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, Poland, thanks to a grant from the Polish university. She will teach in the Comparative Law School program in English and will teach classes in international business and negotiations, introduction to the U.S. legal system and lawyering skills (advocacy).

“My Stay at Home Diary,” a program featuring children from throughout the world showing their lives, joys and concerns during the pandemic, and broadcast during winter 2020-2021 on WSIU and its affiliated public media stations, is among the selections in the 2022 Prix Jeunesse International Festival. The festival is the oldest children and youth television festival worldwide. The free series is available for viewing. By collaborating with local sponsors, Canadian children’s media producers and youth, WSIU continues to present the program series, which features youth doing their own videography and storytelling from home. The free series is available online for viewing at WSIU and nationwide on PBS.

The Gateway Journalism Review’s special police accountability issue, “Legal Roadblocks to Police Accountability” with the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting is a finalist in the magazine category for the American Bar Association’s 2022 Silver Gavel Award for Media Arts. The winners will be announced in May.

Christie McIntyre, director of teacher education, School of Education, recently received the Distinguished Member Award from the Association of Teacher Educators. The award is given for “significant and continued contributions to the association as well as the discipline of teacher education.”

Christopher W. Behan, professor, SIU School of Law, participated in a virtual symposium, “Global Perspectives: Criminal Justice Reform in the United States and Around the World” hosted March 4 by the Belmont University College of Law Criminal Law Journal. Behan discussed criminal reconciliation procedures in Ugandan Magistrate Courts as part of a panel discussion.

“Shawnee Showdown: Keep the Forest Standing” by Cade Bursell, professor, School of Media Arts, will be shown at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 14, at Harrisburg Middle School. The film has been invited to screen at the Environmental Film Festival at Yale University on April 1 and the Athens International Film+Video Festival, April 2 and 5.

Cinzia Padovani, associate professor, School of Media Arts, was recently interviewed on Radio France on the FranceCulture radio show. The discussion centered on the interference of politics within public service media, with a focus on two major European pubcasters, the British BBC and Italy’s RAI.
