“like the delayed rays of a star” by Heather M. O’Brien, assistant professor, School of Media Arts, was featured recently at the Printed Matter + EXILE Books exhibition and conference at the New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA) 2021. O’Brien also participated in a virtual discussion on the book.

Jeffrey Punske, associate professor, linguistics, and Bryan Mullins, men’s basketball head coach, were both recently named to “Southern Illinois’ 20 under 40 for 2021” by The Southern Illinoisan’s Lifestyles Magazine.

Kevin Mercer, assistant professor, School of Media Arts, has been selected to present at the Mid America College Art Association Virtual Conference, hosted by Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania, March 31-April 2. Mercer will present “SALUKI-X: Investigating Ethical Space Exploration Through Hybrid Methodologies for Designing, Mapping and Navigating Virtual and Built Environments” during the session “Time and Place: How Cartography and Geology Affect Our Realities.”

“Assessing Student Competencies with Portfolios: A Preliminary Study” by Jessica Cataldo, assistant professor, and Thomas Shaw, associate professor, School of Health Sciences, was published recently in the Journal of Health Administration Education.

Kenneth Stikkers, professor, philosophy and Africana studies, is the recipient of the 2022 Stuart Hall Outstanding Mentor Award from the Caribbean Philosophical Association (CPA). The award goes to "activists, artists, scholars, teachers, and theorists who have cultivated influential critical communities." The CPA's award committee “made its assessment through consulting a collection of extraordinary letters” from former students in addition to their and Stikkers’ impact on philosophy, the academic profession, the global intellectual community and clear commitment to CPA projects.

Susan Graham, senior business manager, College of Agricultural, Life, and Physical Sciences, was recently one of six people nationwide to receive the 2021 National Association of Agricultural Educators Outstanding Cooperation Award, presented during the 2021 NAAE convention, Nov. 30-Dec. 4, in New Orleans.

Seung-Hee Lee, professor, fashion design and merchandising, recently received the 2021 International Textile and Apparel Association (ITAA) Service Excellence Award. The ITAA is considered one of the most prestigious, significant and influential worldwide associations in fashion and textiles since 1944.

The Saluki men’s basketball team earned a 3.526 team grade point average for the 2021 fall semester — the top GPA within the athletic department and the best term GPA in program history.
