Cindy Buys, School of Law, received the Richard H. Teas Legislative Support Award from the Illinois State Bar Association this month for her work assisting the ISBA in securing passage of legislation ratifying the Equal Rights Amendment and improved consular notification in Illinois. She is also working on legislation involving remedies for noncitizen defendants if a judge fails to provide the required notice of the potential immigration consequences before accepting a guilty plea.

Rob Lopez, School of Art and Design, has been awarded a 2019-2020 Emerging Arts Administrator Fellowship by the National Council of Arts Administrators. He will be a Fellow for the 2019 NCAA Annual Conference, Sept. 18-21.

Elaine Jurkowski, School of Social Work, presented “Policies for an Aging and Ability Impaired Society: Policy and Program Planning for Older Adults and People with Disabilities” in May at the 2019 International Summit on Aging and Gerontology in Rome, Italy.

Najjar Abdul-Musawwir, School of Art and Design and Africana Studies, participated in a visiting professorship exchange program in the American Studies Center at the University of Warsaw in Poland. He presented a lecture “From Africa to America: A Visual Artist Aesthetic Reaction to the Banjo” in late May. He also gave course lectures on African-American abstract expressionism during the studies center’s seminar classes.
