John Shaw, Paul Simon Public Policy Institute, will address a group of state legislative leaders and business executives from more than 20 states when he presents “John F. Kennedy and the Challenge of Statesmanship” on Friday at the 2019 Spring Leadership Summit at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library in Boston, Massachusetts.

Patrick Dilley, Educational Administration and Higher Education, and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, was recently interviewed about his historical scholarship on non-heterosexual college students for “Social Science Matters,” which champions original and authoritative research within the social sciences.

Carbondale Teen Makes MLS Debut,” by Brad Palmer, digital media news specialist with WSIU Radio, earned “Best Sports Report” in the 2018 Illinois Associated Press Broadcaster’s Association competition. The award was announced at the INBA spring convention earlier this month.

Jacob Juntunen, Theater, published a review this week of The Aphra Behn Emerging Artists' Festival in The Theatre Times, a global and comprehensive theatre online portal.

‘A Software Framework for Heterogeneous Wireless Sensor Network Towards Environmental Monitoring’ a paper by Qian (Jenny) Huang, School of Architecture, and Kane Rodriguez, an SIU alumnus, was published recently in Applied Sciences.

Thomas Fagerholm, Theater, recently presented “Turning Heads, No Strings Attached: Wireless Automation of Pneumatics” at the Southeastern Theater Conference in Knoxville, Tennessee. The workshop outlined approaches to scenic automation and pneumatics using examples from SIU research and productions.

Jiyong Lee, School of Art and Design, recently presented at the Glass Art Society annual conference in St. Petersburg, Florida. Lee also organized a group exhibition, featuring demonstrations from several SIU glass alumni.

A CD recording project by Junghwa Lee, School of Music, of Clara Schumann's solo piano music that commemorates Schumann’s 200th birthday was accepted by the Grand Piano label of Naxos Records. Lee will also present Schumann's works, “Compositions and Life of Clara Wieck vs. Clara Schumann” at the 2019 College Music Society National Conference in Louisville, Kentucky in October.  

William Freivogel, School of Journalism, will moderate a panel discussion “A Free Press and the Bar: Ethical Duties of Lawyers” April 10, at St. Louis University School of Law.
